The Education Committee is pleased to bring back our Basic and Advanced AR Pattern Rifle Classes, along with the addition of Basic Precision Rifle. Precision rifle shooting competitions are becoming very popular, and this class will introduce you to all the basics. Presented by Club members Tim Florio and Tony Moller. For more information or to reserve a spot in any of the classes, contact Tim at [email protected]
Basic AR:
Students will initially be introduced to the AR-15 platform of rifles in a classroom setting. During this time students will learn the major components of the rifle, how it functions and operates, and cleaning/maintenance of the platform.
After the classroom portion, students will spend the rest of the day on the range for the live fire portion of class. Students will then learn how to safely load and unload the platform, fire using three basic firing positions, fundamentals of marksmanship and how they pertain to the platform, as well as how to safely remedy malfunctions.
Advanced AR:
This course is the continuation of the Basic AR15 class (prerequisite or prior verifiable experience required). In this class, students will learn and become proficient with unconventional shooting positions, shooting from barricades and obstacles, advanced marksmanship considerations, and recoil management. This class is for any student who wishes to either participate in competitive shooting, learn to shoot their AR15 in a more dynamic environment, and/or become proficient in advanced marksmanship. This class will also include transitioning between multiple targets on the same and different planes. This will be accomplished through a series of drills and courses of fire.
Basic Precision Rifle:
This course is for students who wish to learn the fundamentals of precision rifle shooting using a magnified optic with either a “Minute of angle” (moa) or “Milliradian” (mil) based reticle. Students will spend time in the classroom learning the fundamentals of precision scopes, their reticles, uses, features, and considerations. Students will gain a basic understanding of internal and external ballistics and their role in precision shooting. Care, maintenance, and setup of precision rifles will be discussed, and each student’s rifle will be evaluated for fit in relation to them.
On the rifle range, students will review/learn the basic shooting positions and their considerations for a precision rifle platform. Through live fire students will learn how to zero their scope to their rifle, the application of the fundamentals of marksmanship, testing accuracy, and building a “Data On Previous Engagement” (DOPE) card.
